Does anyone know what this marking means on my TB i'm trying to work out his age but it any making sence on one side he has H with a diamond around it V^ sorry can't do it on the comp. and has 18 and 7 under neath the 8 can anyone tell me his age thank you

  Nicola   Auckland  11:42PM    02-Sep-10
The 7 means he was born in either 1997 or 2007. The 18 means he is either the 18th horse born to that stud in that year, or the 18th horse the vet branded that season, or the 18th horse born to a particular stud, but that all depends on what the actual brand (on the other side) is. At least that is my understanding of it.

Fibra Pro, cool feed, tox defy, alleviate, selenium once a month, carrots and apples, 2 biskets of meadow hay per day.
Reply
  Gina   Cambridge  9:35PM    02-Sep-10
Lucerne chaff, copra, Cambridge Grains yearling or broodmare mix, Cambridge Grains ShowPride. Occasionally Fibrepro for the fussier ones. No additives. Same ingredients in different doses/mixes for the skinnies, fatties, racehorses, sporthorses, ponies. Most get as much hay/haylage as they can swallow!

Ok I'll play. I have a horse on here that's needed fattening up. He has been on FibreSure (but now on FibrePro), lucerne chaff, copra, sugarbeet, oil, started off with some protexin but now on Diamond V, also gets ad lib hay, and is on plenty of grass. The other two are just on pasture and hay at night.

  Adrienne   Albany  9:42PM    02-Sep-10
Lucerne chaff ( unmolassed), low sugar sugarbeet, and electrolytes on riding days. tox defy intermittenly - selenium plus on sundays, hay daily and a kelp, mint etc mix that he can help himself to when he is brought out of paddock.

NRM Low GI Sport as the basis for everything. Gosh gets a touch of KER Equijewel as well. A bit of FibreMix cos I can't get out of the habit of feeding a bit of fibre too. Supplements - Nutritech Danelyte (pH neutral Electrolytes) EquiGuard (mycotoxin binder) & EquiCalm (Magnesium). Hira Labs Omega Oils, Anti All, Meadow Muesli. Lubrisyn. Gastric Aid. All titrated to need. Oh, and good old fashioned salt.

OK, serious question - would you let the kids school XC without one?
Reply
  Gill   Kapiti Coast  9:38PM    02-Sep-10
Nope I wouldn't! But to be honest the only reason I would make my child wear one is because I would feel others would be judging me for my decision. But I guess I'm one of those who feel the same about bike helmets as well. As an adult you should be able to make your own educated decisions! I really resent being told I MUST wear safety equipment when I am old and ugly enough to use my own comon sense. And this highly contraversial post is coming from someone who has two slipped discs from accidents jumping! I know the risks and I choose to ride without one.

Going to get one, the children don't need to eat-lol. Then hiring Waikanae park and having a ball :)

  Karen   Downsizing  9:43PM    02-Sep-10
Yeah I guess that's all fine when riding on your own property, but when riding under someone elses "umbrella" you have to abide by their rules :o)

  Molly     10:31PM    02-Sep-10
I do agree with adults being able to make their own informed decisions but at the same time when ACC (tax payers) are paying for the expensive ongoing treatment costs of someone who could have avoided a serious injury by using a piece of safety equipment then I can see why we have these rules.

Pony Club rules. Interesting at NITE (Riding Clubs) back protectors not necessary and neither are long sleeves but medical arm bands were.

Yay, Ted and I are now Jo riding Dreams Unlimited (ends in Ted, got to be good). Forms are filled in for the Waikanae Spring show and Equine Practice day. Had a long ride this week to get in shape for WATRC ride Oct 3rd, have my sisters beautiful tweed jacket to hunt with the Manawatu hunt next season and her Black jacket for shows, going to Waikanane park on Sunday to practice at 60cm and possibly a few jumps at the next height. So now i'm totally terrified(my first, returning to riding, lesson in May was on the lunge? I have never jumped 60cm at a canter until now, never considered hunting.Actually I was never keen to canter, but I love Teds canter, we had fun at the beach on Wednesday cantering 20cm circles...he slowly heads towards the water-a happy horse). Right, so does anyone want to by a gorgeous horse and i'll take up knitting instead?

NH but is it true that if you have guinea pigs you can't have just one on their own? There are 9 baby 'pigs' here and one of them is going to my neice tomorrow but others say you need to have two, as none of them have been sexed I don't want them breeding if she has two of them...any guinea pig experts here???

Guinea pigs seem quite happy on their own - it's pet rats that have to have company. Sexing guineas is easy when you know how - if you squeeze gently in the right spot boys will "introduce themselves" lol.

I think Guinea pigs are social so would like a friend, just make sure its not a rabbit as we used to have a female gp and male rabbit and he used to trap her against the side of the run and give her a rodgering!!!!! I nearly died when I caught him doing it and he was quickly banished into another run we made that same day!!!!

Just watched the intro to Burghley on you tube. In the background there was horse in the trot up - dark brown, with a silver fern quarter marker. It looked really great. No idea whose horse though. Go NZ!!!! Edit to add: course walk with Mark Phillips cross country

The Ranfurly 18 ounce ($250) and the Ultima rug($200) have $50 difference in price on Trademe, do you know if there is much difference in these covers (apart from one being blue canvas and the other the light green)

  Emgee   Kapiti  8:01PM    02-Sep-10
I don't know Ultima but Ranfurly's fit well and last for years.

  Karen   Downsizing  8:11PM    02-Sep-10
The difference is in the quality of the canvas. One is Regentex, the other is not.

I like the Ranfurly but have never had one. Had LOADS of Goodwood, I keep buying them cos they're quality, well fitting rugs. Also like the Lodge ones from Tackshop, they fit really well too.

Have a 5 ft Ranfurly 4 seasons I might part with :) The ponies are going feral & not being covered anymore. heschenbruch@yahoo.com

The Ranfurly has a different shaped front, the Ultimo has just a long closed dart. In my opinion, Regentex is the best canvas out. Duratex, which the Ultimo is made out of is made exclusively for Reid & Twiname who import Regentex.

Hi, I know it's late, and so I'll post this tomorrow a.m. for morning viewers, but have ya'll seen YouTube "salsa dancing dog.mp4"? She's an amazing puppy girl, is all I have to say! I don't think my Dougal could learn to do that. In fact I KNOW he couldn't.
