It’s a great time to try new flavours in the Kaipara this month with new and exciting dishes combining with old favourites at your local eateries. As well as a feast of fresh local ingredients and culinary wizardry, you’ll find that there’s entertainment to delight your other senses as well!
You’ll also find a delectable combination of flavours in Ruawai at the Ruawai Pizza bar — another venue which goes over and above what you may expect with sizzling steaks and hearty meals in addition to their titular pizza selection.
Jo’s Home Cookery is a Dargaville institution delivering just what their name suggests — generous portions of real home-cooked fare fresh from the kitchen. They’re a popular destination for a summer al fresco lunch out on the balcony and this time of year you can’t go past a big homemade burger, kaipara kumara wedges and a frosty tall milkshake right here.
The Northern Wairoa Memorial RSA is another firm favourite for good old fashioned cooking — come on in and try a traditional roast meal for a very nice price or simply enjoy good company with a cold drink or two.
The pies at the Top Shop need special mention — if traditional fare is your favourite you won’t do better than their delicious old-time steak and kidney pie, a favourite recipe that’s hard to find these days. Baked right on site these crispy morsels are always fresh and flavourful.
The Horseshoe Café in Hokianga Road have been proudly locally owned for over a decade now and they know just what Kaipara folks like to eat! You’ll discover freshly made sandwiches to go alongside a hot breakfast and lunch menu and the best in takeaway treats.
Speaking of takeaway dinners, there’s nothing better to satisfy the family than a piping hot fresh pizza from Real Town Pizzas — Maungaturoto’s destination for the ubiquitous Italian favourite. With lashings of cheese and generous toppings, there’s something to please all tastes at a great price.
We’ve saved the best for last this week and what a treat it is — that famous local venue for good times and live music — the Funky Fish have really pulled out all the stops with their latest Sunday concert, bringing us a Kiwi supergroup made up of three individually famous artists.
The latest musical project featuring the talents of musicians Paul McLaney, Andrew Park and Malcolm Blake may be called Nameless Sons, but all three of these talented artists have been forging a name for themselves in the international music scene for several years now.
With members of the new Kiwi rock band having added their distinctive sound to such notable acts as Gramsci, SJD, Dream City Film Club, Looma and the mighty Concord Dawn, there is a real buzz around what they will accomplish together. Drop in and see them and stay a while for something special from the Funky Fish’s awesome summer menu.
